Comments from ladies who attend the LampLighters
“I was afraid that I might not mentally be able to handle opening up and dealing with being molested throughout my childhood, but after one year I have come so far and finally feel alive and relieved I made it. I’m so glad LampLighters is available.”
“The Lamplighters has been immensely helpful in my recovery from my childhood sexual abuse.”
“It’s a place to go where there are others that have gone through the same things I have. It helps ground me.”
“The Lamplighters has been a safe place for me to learn to trust, share, care, and heal. Our facilitator, PB, has made it possible for us to explore a happy and healthy outlook towards ourselves.”
“The Lamplighters has meant a lot to me. It has been very helpful for me, to be able to let go, and to know I am not alone; learning how to handle my feelings, and to live without guilt and shame. I think the more that I talk about what’s happened over the years to me as a child and young adult, I will be a better person and I can recover. P has been very helpful in my recovery as an adult of childhood sexual abuse. Each week is a new beginning for all of us.”
“The Lamplighters has shown me that I can live without guilt and shame and live and love. Thank you to P.”
“The Lamplighters have taught me courage, faith and hope towards enjoying my life; throughout recovery and the stages of struggles inside that have been hidden and shamed for 35 years.” ~1 year Lamplighter
“The Lamplighters Group has been a place to share experiences in my life that I didn’t have a place to do so before. Margie McKinnon* has opened the door to healing painful childhood issues. I’m learning about myself, and gaining trust in others. I thank Margie the founder and P our facilitator for their understanding and compassion. It makes the process easier.” *Marjorie McKinnon is the author of R.E.P.A.I.R. and founder of the Lamplighters.
What About Me?
Partners or spouses of a survivor of sexual abuse meet every Tuesday from 6p-8p at the Sunrise Center, 203 3rd Street, International Falls. If you are interested in becoming a member, call 218-283-9334 for more information on how to join. A light meal is provided.
This group is for anyone who suddenly finds themselves thrust without any guidance, into the dark, mysterious and problem filled world of the adult survivor of sexual abuse. It is for anyone who has questions, but can’t find the answers.
What About Me will help partners understand the issues surrounding sexual abuse and prepare them for the journey through the healing process with the survivor. It will help them understand why survivors who are healing say and do certain things. It will also give them a better understanding of their own actions and feelings.
This group will reassure you that it’s possible to have a healthy mutual relationship with a survivor. It will encourage you to take care of yourself, teach you to look to your own needs, and show you how to support the survivor.
